What is your concept? (Be thorough & specific. Review the links on Blackboard)

Our concept is sports and athletic wear for teen girls. We want to make a magazine that allows you to read about the best high school women athletes in the area, while also having activewear for those who are interested. We also want to have inspirational articles about a few of the athletes.

How did you conceive the idea for this concept?

We conceived the idea because we wanted to create a magazine for teens about girls sports while having activewear for those who are interested and inspire the young girls/ audience to be better and work harder for their goals.

What do you believe is unique about your concept?

It’s a magazine that gives info on high school sports sports and the clothes like a combination while giving inspiration to the women readers.

Why do you believe this product will be of interest to your audience?

It's not either or it’s a combination which isn't very common and there's not many girls athlete magazines for younger girls that inspire them to work harder for their goals.

Go into the athletes inspirational backstories

The feedback that we received during our pitch didn’t really impact our vision for the magazine, but more so help to strengthen the idea and build it a little more. Our idea is to circle in on female athletes and inspire our audience while bringing attention to underrated female sports, and the feedback helped us kind of magnify that women empowerment and inspiration to the readers. The Abundance, Joy, Beauty, Persistence, Power, and Potential of Independent Publishing: A CONVERSATION WITH SIX BLACK EDITORS states it's the role of the editor to be a connective tissue between the reader and the publisher, balancing the reality of working under the employ of a publisher by acting not as a gatekeeper, but as an advocate for a developing and evolving literature and its community,”. Some of the feedback included having an article about an athlete that plays the sport talked about in the magazine, and who has an inspirational backstory that helped to shape them to be where they are today.

With our concept, we really worked on making something to really connect with the targeted audience because that’s a big part of creating a successful magazine. The Abundance, Joy, Beauty, Persistence, Power, and Potential of Independent Publishing: A CONVERSATION WITH SIX BLACK EDITORS, States, It's important to be in tune with the interests and conversations of readers who gravitate toward certain books while articulating their desires for greater literary representation, not only in who is published, but in ideas and perspectives,”
